Tejitu was only 3 years old when her parents noticed she was having trouble seeing
As she got older, her sight worsened. In school, she had to sit close to the blackboard to see. Tejitu's parents tried to get treatment for her when she was 15 years old, but they couldn't afford transportation to the hospital.

Then one day, a Seva Canada outreach worker met Tejitu and took her to a screening camp.
She was diagnosed with an absorbed cataract and needed surgery to fix it.

Thanks to Seva donors, Tejitu received sight-restoring cataract surgery.
After the bandages were removed, Tejitu could see again. She was no longer shy and introverted. She became alive!

Yet, an unassuming pair of glasses holds the power to create a profound and immediate impact on a child’s life. Sight is more than just healthy vision; it’s a path to a brighter future full of potential.

Together, we can help 5000 children see and succeed this school year with a pair of glasses. Your gift, no matter the amount, will transform a child's life and future.

A gift of $25 provides 5 children with a pair of prescription glasses.

Give Glasses to a Child like Thuon

Thuon is a 13-year-old student in grade 7 living in a rural village in Banteay Meanchey Province, Cambodia. For the past two years, she had difficulty seeing clearly which made it hard for her to read, write and participate in class. Thuon and her parents worried that her poor vision was negatively affecting her grades and her self-esteem as she began falling behind her classmates.

One day at school her teacher told her that Seva Canada was going to be training teachers on basic eye care so they could perform visual acuity tests on their students. Thuon was tested by her teacher shortly after. She was found to have poor vision and was scheduled for a follow-up exam by an ophthalmic nurse.

When the nurse came and examined Thuon, she diagnosed her with farsightedness. Thanks to the generosity of Seva Canada's donors, the nurse later returned to Thuon's school with her new prescription glasses, free of charge.

"As I am legally blind and live in a high-income country, I have been afforded luxuries that would not have necessarily been provided in other regions of the world. I strongly believe that we should not be limited by the birth lottery for social, geographical, and gender statuses, but rather be supported and raised by humanity to be the best versions of ourselves."

- Rupinder, Seva Canada donor

“When I was a little boy in a primary school, I had a vision problem myself and I really struggled in school. I was lucky, I had a very good teacher. She noticed that I always wanted to sit very close to the board. She asked my mother to take me to an ophthalmologist who ultimately realized I had very high myopia. And when I got glasses, my vision improved and also my marks in class. I realized how glasses, costing less than $5, can change a child’s destiny. And from that time I said, this is what I want to do. I remember saying to my mother that I want to help kids to have good vision when they go to school. From that time, I knew I was going to be an ophthalmologist.”

- Dr. Levi Kandeke, Burundian Ophthalmologist and Seva partner
