Uganda

Uganda has a population of 44.7 million people, of which an estimated 3.1 million have vision loss, 83,000 of whom are blind (2020).

Since 2018, we’ve been working with our regional partner in Africa, the Kilimanjaro Centre for Community Ophthalmology (KCCO) and our local partner, Dr. Simon Arunga in Uganda.

Seva Canada and Kilimanjaro Centre for Community Ophthalmology provide training and technical support to provide high-quality, low-cost  eye care to the people of northern Uganda and eastern Congo.

Dr. Simon Arunga, our implementing partner, opened an eye hospital in 2018 in Mbarara and a second in the Fort Portal area in 2023. This second hospital will provide high-quality, low-cost eye care to an underserved area of Uganda as well as the Democratic Republic of Congo population along the border.
