The West African nation of Benin has a population of just over 12 million, of which approximately 1.2 million have vision loss, 52,000 of whom are blind (2020).
We support Benin’s eye care program by expanding outreach activities to ensure more people gain the power of sight.
Benin’s geographical position at the juncture of two major regional corridors—the Abidjan-Lagos and Cotonou-Niamey corridors— makes this West African country an important commercial and tourism hub.
Seva Canada’s West African partner, Hôpital Ophtalmologique St. André de Tinré (HOSAT), offers comprehensive eye services in northern Benin and neighbouring countries (Togo, Niger, Nigeria). HOSAT’s five ophthalmologists provide adult and paediatric services.
Seva Canada continues to support the eye care program in Benin by helping to expand outreach activities so that even more people can receive the power of sight.
