Seva Canada is extremely grateful to Michele Lilyanna and her Grade 5 and 6 students at Roberts Creek Elementary School on BC's Sunshine Coast for their amazing fundraising efforts to restore sight and prevent blindness. The students had a big toy sale that raised $1200 and they donated $310 to Seva's eye care programs. Many of the students took time to write special letters to Penny Lyons, Seva's Executive Director. That's not all. This month Michele, their teacher, bought a whole bunch of jelly beans and put them in pretty cups and placed them beside the a Certificate of Appreciation from Seva Canada. The students have been donating a $1 each to vote on how many beans are in the cup. So far they've raised almost $100 ... The funds raised by the students at Roberts Creek with be used to purchase special medicines and antibiotic  eye drops for Seva's eye care programs in Tibet.  Tibet has the highest rate of blindness in the world and these medicines will be used to restore sight. "Congratulations to all the students on your hard work," says Penny Lyons of Seva Canada. "Thank you for your wonderful letters and drawings! We're happy to share your words with the world and to let others know what you have done to help people in one of the poorest and remote regions of the world regain their sight." Here's a photo of the class and a slideshow of the students' letters:
