Our Seva donors are amazing! Thank you for your incredible support and for entrusting Seva Canada with your gifts. Today we received many photos and stories from an eye camp in remote, mountainous region of Nepal. At that one camp 730 people were examined and 104 people, young and old, had sight-restoring eye surgery. Here are two stories to show you the impact you are making on people’s lives. Two Nepali girls who had their sight restored at an eye camp by SevaFourteen-year-old  Ram Kumari Tamang (shown left in black) was facing an uncertain future. Up to Grade 3, she was one of the smartest people in her class. But then things started going wrong. She failed grades 4, 6 and 8. Her family thought she must have a low IQ and they resolved to pull her out of school. The real problem was that Ram Kumari couldn’t see. Without eye care, her future would fade away along with her vision. At the eye camp she was diagnosed with cataracts in both eyes. The day after her eye surgeries, her vision had improved from 20/200 to 20/40. Ram Kumari was delighted. She said that from now on she would be first in her class. She wanted to have her photo taken with Pembi Sherpa (in blue), another young girl who also received sight-restoring cataract surgery at the Seva eye camp. The girls became good friends after seeing each other at the eye camp. Both girls can now return to school and have brighter futures. Here's another story.

BEFORE: Sherpa before his cataract surgery by Seva in Nepal

Ringi Sherpa after his cataract surgery

AFTER: Ringi Sherpa after his cataract surgery. Looking forward to seeing his cows!

Mr. Ringi Sherpa was blind from cataracts in both eyes and could no longer walk unaided or manage to take care of himself. To reach the eye camp, Ringi Sherpa had to travel for four days, walking with the aid of his brother and being carried on the back of a porter. His sight was restored through surgery. Here he is, before and after. When asked what we wanted to see first on going home he said he’d like to see his cows. These are two stories from the nearly 3 million people who have had their sight restored through Seva partner programs around the world. Happy holidays and thank you for your gifts of sight.
